McGregor, Sims, Schmoranz Law Office
Your friendly, neighbourhood law firm.
Serving Kingsville & Essex County since 1968.
In 1968, Walter McGregor (1916-2007) opened a Kingsville office to serve the clients of his busy commercial law practice. He set up shop in a quaint, red-brick home on Main Street East. In 1974, Terrence L. Sims joined the firm after spending summers working for Mr. McGregor. Over the years, our firm has served the residents of Kingsville/Essex County, helping them with their legal needs. We've always been a small-town firm and it is these values that we bring to everything that we do: real estate, wills/estates and farming/business advice. We look forward to continuing to provide our services in this way for many years to come.
We do our very best to ensure that our clients receive competent legal advice in a timely and cost-effective manner.
We represent buyers and sellers of residential, agricultural, commercial, retail and industrial properties, in addition to acting for institutional and private lenders. We also assist US residents looking to sell properties in Southwestern Ontario.
Our firm can assist with all facets of estate planning. We prepare powers of attorney, wills and codicils and work closely with your tax and wealth advisors to ensure that your legacy is protected. After the passing of a loved one, we help you navigate the sometimes complicated world of obtaining probate, liquidating property and investments and distributing estate assets to beneficiaries. Our lawyers are also happy to act as attorneys or estate trustees should a client live far from close family and friends.
We represent small, medium and large businesses, sole proprietors and corporations. From incorporating a company, to setting up a shareholder agreement, our firm has solutions for every budget. We also assist clients with the purchase and/or sale of businesses and work closely with a range of accounting professionals in Southwestern Ontario.
We help employers and professionals to draft and negotiate employment agreements. If you've been terminated and have received a buyout proposal, our team is here to review it with you and, where necessary, connect you with outside litigation counsel.
Both Mr. Schmoranz and Mr. Sims are licensed notaries in the Province of Ontario. We can prepare travel letters, notarize documents and witness/commission affidavits. We also assist with time-share transactions in the United States.
Sebastian H. Schmoranz
Barrister, Solicitor & Notary
Raised in Kingsville, Sebastian understands the importance of building strong relationships in a tight-knit community. A client might also be a friend, relative or neighbour and it's important to provide straightforward, common sense, confidential solutions to their legal issues.
Sebastian's practice focuses on real estate, wills/estates and corporate/commercial transactions. He also provides agency services for litigation firms with matters in Windsor-Essex, Chatham, Sarnia and London.
He is fluent in French and German and functional in Spanish.
Sebastian obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in French & Business from the University of Waterloo in 2009. He graduated from Western University's Juris Doctor program in 2013 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2014. He began his career at a large Bay Street firm which helped him develop a strong work ethic and the ability to solve complex problems while under pressure. He came home to practice law in Kingsville in 2016 and purchased the firm from Terrence L. Sims in 2020.
Outside of the office, Sebastian sits on the Board of the Kingsville Soccer Association and provides pro bono services to local charities and non-profits. Mostly, he chases his 2-year-old son around and fails miserably at keeping his garden alive.
